CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character Name: Michael "Mike" Munroe
Age: 19, apparently
Canon: Until Dawn
Canon Point: end of the game - he survived
Character Information: here

Personality: In high school, Mike was voted most likely to become president, which is a pretty solid starting point as far as his personality goes. He exudes confidence, is very popular (especially with the ladies), and will easily take the lead in pretty much any situation. He's very unapologetic for his actions too, or at least he starts out that way. With a sharp turn into a very serious situation, he grows from not owning up to his shitty behavior to feeling remorse that things ended up the way they did. Especially if he played a part in it. (and, if Jessica does not survive, feeling that it's all his fault is about the only thing he talks about at the game's finale).

When you first meet Mike, he is a typical cocky fresh-out-of-high school guy, who attempts more than anything to keep the mood of the friends' reunion light and carefree. While it was the anniversary of a sad event, he doesn't feel that dwelling on it is the point of the meeting -- which appears to be the same line of thinking that Josh has for most of the game. He is upbeat and loves to joke around. All the characters seem to enjoy pranking and messing around with each other and Mike is no exception. His pranks tend to be pretty boyish such as tossing snowballs or performing jump scares. He also has some of the most humorous lines in the game (Jesus hot sauce Christmas cake). He loves girls but doesn't like to commit to them, showing up with Jessica as his new flame after breaking up with Emily. By the way he also led Hannah on, it's pretty obvious that he's always been a heartbreaker. He very casually talks about girls and sex, playfully bantering with Jessica while all the while insinuating that they're going to have a hot and heavy night. He mentally high fives himself over a kama sutra book. When Matt confronts him, he acts like it's nothing at all. Probably because he does it all the time. He knows he's the top dog and doesn't feel bad about others' feelings when it comes to that. Hannah, Matt, and Emily are all affected by it. Josh too, more indirectly.

What's actually surprising about Mike is that in the long run, he isn't some egotistical asshole. He still is, but that's not all he is. Mike is very misleading with first impressions, and first shows his heart when Jessica gets nervous and self-conscious, being supportive by telling her that nothing is wrong and that she is beautiful and great. He shows it again when he's actually able to befriend a feral wolf simply by taking things slow and outstretching his hand, convincing the animal that he's no threat. He protects the wolf in the sanitarium and either tries to get it to come with him or, if he doesn't make it, is clearly upset by it. The first half of the game he spends trying to find and save Jessica, and the latter he spends by trying to put an end to their horrors and get them all to survive to the next day. He maybe does not make the best decisions all the time (i.e. he decides to grab a creepy waving hand and has to cut his fingers off as a result. Another example, he comes very close to shooting Emily [or he does shoot Emily, depending on the character choices - I'm going with the route that he did not] after they discover she was bitten ... even though the wendigo bite is not contagious), but the choices are usually made with survival in mind. Except the hand thing... I don't know why anyone would grab an arm sticking out of a box.

While most of the characters in Until Dawn show courage or bravery in their actions, Mike is probably the bravest. He does not even hesitate to go after Jessica even though it's clear something is very, very off about their attacker. He follows a suspicious man into an old mine and an abandoned asylum in order to save Jessica or put an end to who he believes is responsible for her abduction and/or death. Once all of the survivors are more or less safe in their hideout, he is also the first one to say that he is going back right into the heart of all the danger to get the keys to the lift back from Josh. Mike definitely doesn't run from anything unless it's to keep himself alive (who'd want to stand and get torn apart by a wendigo after all), nor does he let an injury or any horrific sight deter him from his goal. He self-amputates with only moments to recover, and he breaks a light bulb with his bare hand before risking an explosion to save all their lives. He spends the majority of the night alone (or with a wolf) and cut off from other things happening -- especially Josh's plans -- which also attests to his bravery. According to the psychiatrist in the game, he fears isolation. A social peacock like Mike thrives while being surrounded by others but he was able to put the fear of being on his own little island aside for the sake of his friends/girlfriend and his own survival.

Mike is one of only two characters who can really only be killed one or two ways, and not until the end of the game. The other is Samantha, and the two of them easily become the grounding force in the group. Samantha stays level headed and Mike is smart and quick, able to come up with a plan right in the moment and see it through. They are the protectors of the group and Mike's weapons of choice are his silver tongue and smart troubleshooting. It takes little arguing for others to agree to his plans, and inevitably he is the one that devises a way to destroy the wendigos and get the others out of the house. Sam is the one who executes it but he thought of how to do it. And even though he did not know that Josh was to blame for much of the events during the night, he is one of the ones to show the most anger toward him outwardly. He has no trouble disconnecting with their friendship knowing the horrific pranks Josh set up for the sake of getting revenge and posting on youtube, because it put all of them in danger. Depending on the choices, it can also result in some deaths and Mike finds that unforgivable. He really doesn't seem to care what happens to Josh after the others talk him out of just plain shooting him. Josh clearly loses it by the end of the game and Mike sees that. He can't save what their friend's become, but he feels that he can still protect the friends that are left despite the horrible things they'd all been through. At the end of the night he appears tired, but not defeated, strong in affirming that everything he'd seen and done was just plain fucked up.
